The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is a cult favorite among consumers and beauty enthusiasts alike. Chances are you’ve either seen a beauty blogger rave about it or have had someone recommend this foundation to you.
The Double Wear Foundation boasts 24-hour wear that stays flawless all day, but also feels so lightweight and comfortable, it feels like you’re going makeup-free. Reviewers say it controls oil and it doesn’t move all day, even without the use of a primer or setting spray! Sounds like an actual dream.
But there are a lot of makeup products out there that have big promises and rave reviews, but don’t actually deliver on them. So is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation worth the praise, or is it just another over-hyped makeup product?

Price and shade range
Before we get into application and how well it performs, we have to start with the basics, like price and shade range.
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation has a wide variety of shades to choose from. 57 shades to be exact. The shades range from fair to deep, with the ability to easily choose your undertones as well, using their number code.
They use the letters C,N, and W to identify which undertones each shade is suited for. So if you have cool undertones, you would choose a foundation with a C in it’s number. If you have warm undertones, you would choose a foundation with a W in it’s number. If you have neutral undertones, you would choose a foundation with an N in it’s number. For example, my shade in this foundation is Sand with the number 1W2.
This letter/number system makes finding your perfect foundation match so much easier! (I mean, how many times have you bought a foundation that was way too cool or warm for your skin?)
Learn more about finding your undertones in my Foundation Tips For Beginners post!
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation retails for $43, which is a little on the pricier side. However, Estee Lauder is considered high-end, so their prices are on-par with other brands in this category. You can purchase it from a number of department stores, beauty stores, and online through the Estee Lauder website, Sephora and Ulta.
Application and coverage
The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation comes in a glass bottle with a pretty wide opening. To use it, you have to tilt the bottle and allow some product to come out onto your hand, brush, sponge, etc. The consistency of the foundation isn’t too runny or thick, kind of like a happy medium between the two.
The foundation applies easily, blending into the skin to create a very natural looking base, no caking. It is medium to full coverage, so while looking natural, it also does a great job at covering up imperfections like blemishes, dark circles, or acne.
The Double Wear Foundation is a matte finish foundation which makes it a perfect fit for those with more oily or acne-prone skin. Oil is essentially whisked away as soon as you put the foundation on. It doesn’t feel heavy or tight, and skin is left with a smooth, flawless, and natural looking base.
Wear
Like mentioned above, Estee Lauder claims that their Double Wear Foundation lasts for 24 hours, without needing to touch-up. I have personally, never had to wear foundation for 24 hours, but I do often wear it for 12-15 hours a day, and this one lasts guys.
Very rarely needing a touch-up, the Double Wear Foundation keeps skin looking flawless throughout the day. It doesn’t transfer onto clothing, it doesn’t settle into pores, it doesn’t break apart or start to streak, it really stays put.
Another noticeable thing about the wear of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is that it doesn’t oxidize on the skin, like many foundations do. This means that the shade you put on in the morning, doesn’t change and turn too orange in the middle of the day. It also doesn’t clog pores or cause breakouts, and works so well for oily, sensitive, and acne prone skin.
Speaking of pros, another one this foundation has is the SPF that’s included in it. The Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation has an SPF of 10, which is not enough sun protection, but it is a nice added touch!

Now, nothings ever perfect, and this foundation is included. Here are the cons.
The cons
The number one con is that the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is not cruelty free. Which really, totally sucks because there are a lot of people out there who choose to only use cruelty free products. This foundation is also not vegan, which again, totally sucks.
Another downside to this foundation, is that it doesn’t come with a pump. Like mentioned above, the opening of the bottle is a little wide, so sometimes too much product comes out. This can be frustrating because with this foundation, a little goes a long way, so you end up just wasting product. Estee Lauder does sell a pump to add to the bottle and reuse with future bottles for $10, which is pretty worth it.
The final verdict
It’s worth the hype, simple as that.
Although there are downsides to the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, it is a product worthy of all the hype it gets. It’s a great foundation, especially for people with oily skin or those who want natural looking coverage to hide blemishes. It provides coverage that lasts throughout the day and doesn’t move, cake, or oxidize. It comes in a pretty wide variety of shades, and although it’s on the pricier side, the product itself lasts a while.
TLDR; it’s worth it.
If you’re on the hunt for a foundation with a natural matte finish that provides long lasting coverage, give the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation a try, promise you won’t be disappointed!

I tried this foundation for my wedding! It’s amazing, but I still use my L’Oréal true match liquid foundation. I’ve been using it for years. Both are great options. My mom only uses double wear.
It really is such a great foundation!

Yes, it definitely is time! (:
Great review! If I didn’t already have this foundation, I wouldn’t believe all the hype about it. It’s definitely worth the coins and I’m impressed by the shade range as I typically have trouble finding variety (if any) in dark shades.
