Skincare First
An effortless and minimal makeup look is much easier to achieve when you’ve set a good foundation. And by good foundation, I mean healthy skin. Skin that is hydrated and healthy will make overall makeup application simple. It will also give you more confidence to wear less makeup!
You don’t need a 7-step skincare routine, and you don’t need expensive products either. But you do want to have a skincare routine for both morning and night. Your routines will be mostly based on your skin type and concerns, but at the very minimum everyone should be cleansing their skin, applying a moisturizer, and using a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Use Bronzer As A Contour
Contouring is a great way to sculpt and add dimension to your face. But contour is usually pretty heavy, and can take some time to do, making it not exactly ideal for quick and easy everyday makeup. Instead of using a cream or powder contour to add some dimension to your face, try contouring with a bronzer!
Though bronzing and contouring are technically two different things, they do have some similarities. A bronzer is typically used to add more warmth to certain areas of your face, they usually lean more warm-toned, and may have some shimmer to them. Bronzing will bring some dimension to your face, without the typical heaviness of a contour. So you could do a very soft and natural contour with a bronzer. Plus, you’ll get a beautiful, sun-kissed look to your skin!
Some of my favorite bronzers include: the Saie Sun Melt Natural Cream Bronzer, the Iconic London Ultimate Bronzing Powder, and the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer.
Minimal Makeup
Whether you don’t have a ton of time, or you just want to keep it natural for your everyday makeup looks, wearing minimal makeup is the way to go!
Pick which products are everyday essentials for you, and which you don’t really need. This will be different for everyone. For me, a tinted serum, a tinted eyebrow gel, and a cream blush are my everyday essentials. For others, that might look different. I have friends who skip their base makeup, but can’t leave the house without mascara. Figure out what are must-haves, and what you don’t really need. You’ll have less steps in your routine, and your makeup will be done much faster.
Less Coverage
Going off of the last point, opting for less coverage is one of the easiest ways to make your makeup routine easier. If you’re good with going bare faced, that’s great! But if you find you still want coverage, try swapping out your full coverage foundation for a tinted moisturizer or BB cream.
Both are easier to apply, usually simply applied with your fingers. They also often offer healthy skin benefits. Your tinted moisturizer or BB cream might have beneficial skincare ingredients or SPF in them, making getting ready that much faster! Plus, you’re often left with a more natural looking finish, perfect for everyday makeup!
I’m a major fan of the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint! It offers plenty of coverage and gives skin a beautiful dewy finish! (You can read more in my full review of it here).
Cream Products
I was against cream products, like blush, highlight, and bronzer, for so long. And that was one of my biggest makeup mistakes. Now, cream makeup products are my favorite for beautiful and effortless everyday makeup looks!
Cream blush melts right into skin and gives you a natural flush. Cream bronzers are easier to work with and give you the most natural sun-kissed look. And cream highlight can make your skin look so dewy and fresh. They may take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of them, they make such a difference in your everyday makeup! I love how they’re quick, easy to work with, and make everything look more natural!
Some of my favorite cream makeup products include: the elf Putty Bronzer, the Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush, and the Lilah B Glisten + Glow Highlighting Skin Illuminator.
Tinted Balms And Glosses
Lipstick application can be time consuming, not to mention any messy mistakes that may come along with it. And for many people, lipstick is on the heavier side when it comes to natural everyday makeup looks.
A tinted lip balm is my favorite way to add some color to my lips on days where I want to wear less makeup! The color is usually very subtle, but still beautiful. Plus, they offer hydration, keeping your lips soft and moisturized throughout the day! If you want some added shine, a hydrating lip gloss is another great choice!
Some of my favorite tinted balms and glosses include: Fresh Sugar Lip Balm, Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm, and Charlotte Tilbury Hyaluronic Happikiss Lipstick Balm.
Multi-Tasking Products
One of my favorite things about makeup is that there are no set rules. And that includes how you use your products! Makeup products can be used for more than what they were created for.
Some liquid or cream blushes can double as a lip color, (some are even safe to use around your eye area for quick and easy eyeshadow!). Your bronzer can double as a super natural crease shade too! And some liquid highlighters can be mixed with foundation for a glowy makeup look. You can also use eyeshadow to create a subtle winged liner eye look!
Play around and see what you can do with your different makeup products! If using a product not originally intended to use around your eyes or mouth, first make sure it’s safe to do so!
Have An Everyday Makeup Kit
If you have a ton of makeup and always get overwhelmed by all the product choices, creating an every day makeup kit can help. This is also a good idea for people just getting started. Your kit doesn’t need anything specific, just make sure it’s curated for you with products you know you’ll use and love!
If you have too many makeup products to keep track of, look through everything. Find your favorites and put them in a makeup bag, or in a designated spot on your vanity or counter, that way you can easily grab what you need. If you’re a beginner, pick one of every different type of makeup product and add them to a makeup bag. See which ones you’re reaching for everyday, and which you aren’t, and create your makeup kit accordingly.
