So for this weeks Make Up Monday I decided to do a review of a higher end brand. I have been a huge fan of Bare Minerals since I was in 9th grade because my mom, who rarely wears make up and has extremely sensitive skin, swears by it and let me try out some of her products back in the day. I usually only used the mineral eye shadows because at the time my teenage face was generally blemish free and I didn’t ever really need to use foundations, which is most certainly not the case now, bummer. I fell in love with the eye shadow the second I used it, the colors are beautiful and the pigmentation is insane.
Back in December, though, I ordered a mini “sample” pack of the Foundation, Concealer, Mineral Veil, and even their Primer from Sephora, it even came with two mini brushes that are really cute. Okay so, I’m going to say this now because I don’t really like spending a lot of money on make up- I’m a drugstore kind of girl for the most part- but this brand is a little expensive. The kit I bought is sold from about $20-$50 and the size of each product is small. It’s meant to be a 30-day starter kit, to try out the product and see if it works for you. Don’t buy the full size which runs for about $30 unless you tried it already or you really like it.
Lets get into this review!
Although I’ve had this set since December I didn’t try it out until yesterday. It’s been crazy hot in New York this past week, like 90 degrees hot and wearing a heavy liquid foundation pretty much sucks when you end up getting sweaty. Not only is it bad for your face in general, all that product seeping into your pores, but it also just feels really uncomfortable. It feels like you’re melting. I was about to go out to run some errands but my face was bad, red, blotchy, I had a few breakouts so I couldn’t skip any foundation. But it was just so damn hot out and I didn’t want to feel like the Wicked Witch from the end of The Wizard Of Oz. Then it was like a light came down and shined on this little make up kit and I decided to give it a go.

Literally me in the summer. |
My expectations weren’t very high. I’ve tried using only powder and mineral foundation on my face, but always found that there was never enough coverage, I’ve always needed a liquid base.
First, I put the primer on which felt like a really good quality primer. It was thick when i squeezed it out of the tube but spread out really nicely on my face.
Then, it was time for the moment of truth, I took the adorable mini brush that came in the kit, did their signature “Swirl, Tap, Buff” to get the product on and my mouth literally dropped. From one circular movement the spot on my face that I applied it to was fully covered. FROM ONE CIRCULAR MOTION! I was shocked to say the least. I continued applying the foundation, stopping every few motions to gape at the fact that this stuff worked and it worked good.
Next it was time to try out the concealer. I have never used a non-liquid concealer before so once again I wasn’t expecting much. But this stuff is amazing too! One tiny bit and it covered a bright red pimple up no problem. I was officially in love with this brand after that. It’s also great for highlighting your face, my nose looked bomb when I was finished with this!
The Mineral Veil is a more sheer coverage and used to kind of “tint” the foundation that’s already on your face and give it a little sheen. I actually didn’t use it yesterday but I have used it in the past and it’s awesome. I usually use the Mineral Veil over liquid foundations as a light coverage finish.
Now, right after I applied the foundation and concealer I went for an hour walk up to the store in 90 degree weather. This stuff stayed on my face. I didn’t feel gross and it even lasted until 12 AM, which is rare for me because the oils on my face usually only make foundations last a couple of hours then I have to blot and reapply. This stuff is literally magic.
I think this might actually be one of my favorite products ever. I rarely find a foundation I love as much as this one. Just remember, what works for me might now always work for you. Every one is different and that’s whats so great about make up, it caters to everyone’s personal needs and preferences.
